FOURAT KOYO
Fourat Koyo is an artist singer of Moroccan origin who plays the Guembri in the traditional style of Gnawa music, and sprinkles his playing with subtle sounds inspired by jazz, funk and rock.
Born in Essaouira, the city of Moroccan Gnawas, he was raised by the great Maalem Omar El Hayat with whom he performed on many stages, including the Festival of Gnaoua Music of Essaouira, the Scène d’été de la Villette. Alongside this Maalem, Fourat developed his talent for Koyo (karkabou, dance and choir) which allowed him to become a singer and guembri player.
After arriving in Quebec in 2017, he collaborated with several artists of the Montreal scene such as Maroc Couleur, Salamate Gnawa, Ayrad … Thereafter, he began playing with Grooz, artist-composer of Algerian origin, with whom he made many festival scenes and studio recordings. After several years of working together, Grooz supports him to develop his own project, realizes and produces his first album whose release is planned for May 2023..
