Montreal was “thrilled to discover Melodji,” (La Presse, 2025), a joyful artist with a feisty spirit, who wowed the crowd from the Festival’s outdoor stage in the Esplanade Tranquille. Like Rokia Traoré, Amadou & Mariam, and Marema, Melodji has competed in the Prix Découvertes RFI, for which she was one of the finalists in 2015. For over 20 years, this diva, who helped make N’Djamena’s Carnivore club—a hotspot of the local music scene—the place to be, has channelled her powerful voice, with its perfectly controlled vibrato, into traditional Chadian rhythms, which she elegantly blends with blues, soul, R&B and jazz.
