A 40th anniversary
that lived up to every promise.

The 40th edition of the Festival International Nuits d’Afrique de Montréal ended on Sunday just as it began on July 7 — in grand style, honouring four decades of world music in Montréal in an electrifying, emotion-filled atmosphere. From the opening concert by the sublime Malian diva Oumou Sangaré at MTelus to the closing show by the unmissable Tiken Jah Fakoly on the TD Main Stage, this anniversary edition lived up to every promise.

Audiences turned out in force — festivalgoers travelled, vibrated to the music, danced and, above all, celebrated the meeting of cultures. For this 40th edition, the Village des Nuits d’Afrique also expanded, occupying Sainte-Catherine Street for the first time in addition to the Parterre du Quartier des spectacles and the Esplanade Tranquille.

A highlight of this anniversary edition — the tribute paid to Lamine Touré, the Festival’s founding president, with an exceptional show organized by the Republic of Guinea. And just before the grand finale, a crowd of artists from near and far sang Unis par les Nuits together, the Festival’s anthem composed by Meiway for its 40th anniversary.

Numerous local and international media outlets — TV5 Monde, Radio France Internationale, France 24, Radio Nova, Radio-Canada — highlighted the Festival’s historic significance and its contribution to showcasing artists from Africa, the Caribbean and Latin America.

Thank you to our audiences, our artists and our partners who, together, made these 40 years an immense moment of sharing. We can’t wait to see you again for the 41st edition !
